What is Hospice Care?
Hospice is care for patients with a terminal diagnosis, and can be delivered in a home setting or an inpatient unit. The goal of hospice is to keep patients comfortable at the end of their lives.
The team at Essential Hospice provides patient care, caregiver support, education, symptom management and spiritual and emotional support to help you and your loved one prepare for end-of-life.
Hospice care is provided to individuals that have a disease process that is no longer curative. It is designed to provide personalized care, including but not limited to the following:
- Physician oversight
- Nursing care
- Psychosocial needs
- Spiritual needs
- Personal needs
- Activities of daily living
- Medical equipment
- Medications related to hospice diagnosis
Hospice care is paid 100% by Medicare, Medicaid, Veteran Administration, and most insurance providers have a Hospice benefit. To qualify for Hospice a physician must give an order and a written statement that patient has a life limiting disease that should it runs its natural course client has a life expectancy of six months or less.
